Emergency medicine or EM is a branch of medicine specializing in the treatment of acute injuries and illnesses that need immediate medical attention. Emergency medicine doctors or practitioners treat patients who need instant, urgent treatment. They must be able to make quick decisions and lead a team of other medical professionals during intensely stressful situations.
